Pelvic floor

Pelvic floor physical therapists are specially trained to help patients with a multitude of bowel or bladder dysfunctions. Treatment may include strengthening or stretching the pelvic floor muscles, hips and core, coordination training of the pelvic floor muscles, pressure management training with activities of daily life and much more. Treatment may also include biofeedback, bladder training, bladder irritant training, bowel training. Examples of diagnoses that are commonly treated by a pelvic floor physical therapist are urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, constipation, difficulty emptying the bladder, over active bladder, urinary or fecal urgency/ frequency, painful intercourse, interstitial cystitis, and pelvic pain.

Abdominal/ Visceral

Visceral physical therapy involves specialized and specific manual therapy for the abdominal region. This work treats the fascia in and around the abdomen that may be causing pain or dysfunction. Visceral physical therapy is effective for treating abdominal pain, constipation, gas, bloating, scar tissue, and adhesions.

Prenatal

Pregnancy causes many changes in a woman’s body that can lead to aches or pains such as hormone changes, weight changes, center of gravity changes.  A pelvic health physical therapist is the ideal practitioner to help alleviate pain associated with pregnancy.  Treatment may consist of manual therapy for muscle tightness and joint malalignment or restrictions, stretching, therapeutic exercise (including Pilates for core stabilization), posture training. Examples of diagnoses that are commonly treated during pregnancy are: low back, upper back or neck pain, sciatica, pelvic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, hip pain, plantar fascitis.

Low back/ SI joint/ Pelvic pain

Pelvic pain may be caused by a variety of reasons such as childbirth or trauma.  Goals of treatment for pelvic pain focus on improving the alignment of pelvic bones as well as improved mobility of pelvic joints and spine.  Treatment will also consist of evaluation and treatment of underactive or overactive pelvic muscles as well as assessment for restrictions in connective or muscular tissue. Examples of diagnoses treated are: vaginismus, dyspareunia, vulvodynia, constipation, urinary frequency or urgency, pain in pelvis, chronic low back, hip or SI joint pain and abdominal pain.

Postpartum

Post Partum is a time of high demand for a woman’s body.  Between breast or bottle feeding, lifting, bending, and interrupted sleep many areas of the body may feel strained. In addition, the body is healing from either a cesarean section or vaginal delivery. Examples of diagnoses that are commonly treated during post partum are: urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, dysparunia, low back pain, upper back or neck pain, wrist pain, pelvic pain, DRA.

Ventura Pelvic Physical Therapy is an out of network provider for all insurance companies.  All services are $150 for 45 min evaluation and follow up treatments.  

Patients will be provided a superbill upon request to submit to their insurance company.  If the patient's insurance plan has out of network benefits the patient will be sent reimbursement from their insurance company directly.

Dr. Jen Ballentine Evans, PT, DPT, WCS, CPI

Dr. Jen Ballentine Evans is a Los Angeles native who graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in Kinesiology in 2002. After a year working in clinical research, she entered Mount St. Mary’s College where she received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2006.

Dr. Ballentine Evans is proud to be a board-certified Women’s Health Clinical Specialist (WCS) since 2011. She has completed the Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training program (CPI) with Body Arts and Science International.

Dr. Ballentine Evans specializes in manual therapy, pelvic pain, incontinence management, pregnancy, and post-partum dysfunction, and Pilates for rehabilitation. In the last 19 years, she has attended multiple pregnancy, postpartum, Pilates, and pelvic physical therapy continuing education courses. She has been trained in the mobilization of the visceral fascia of the urinary system, gastrointestinal system, and reproductive system of both men and women. She has also been trained in hypopressive (low pressure) exercise. She has been trained in the use of real time rehabilitative ultrasound (RUS) for biofeedback and nuero re education.

Dr. Ballentine Evans enjoys Pilates, hiking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, exercising, and helping patients improve their health and well-being. She also loves spending time with her husband and two children.
